Ranging from Jervis Bay, NSW to Cooktown, North Queensland. Its natural habitats are littoral, riverine, and dry subtropical rainforests. Maximum height is 45 metres. The tree below is growing at the entrance to Lioness Park, Lammermoor.
     
           
Planchonia careya
Cocky apple; Billy goat plum
Large, broad leaves to about 9 x 6 cm, flowers that have white petals (about 4 cm long) and numerous stamens (about 5 cm long) which are pink and white and fused into a short tube at the base. Flowers open late in the afternoon and by mid morning all the petals and stamens are forming a carpet on the ground. The green fruit is about 5 x 3.5 cm, it is edible but apparently not very tasty. Flowering late spring.

Bitter Bark, Strychnine Tree, Native Quince, Forest Quinine, Quinine Tree 
Shrub or small tree to 10 m high. Leaves ovate to circular, 2–6 cm long, 1–2.5 cm wide, upper surface dark green; lower surface grey and finely pubescent with long and short hairs; petiole 3–8 mm long, hairy. Male flowers in clusters of 3 or 4, female flowers solitary.
