my work as a goldsmith/jeweller

the Australiana jewellery series arose from a simple affection for my country, its animals and its plants, this is a universal human quality and it seemed quite natural that I use it as the basis of my work.
"bush circus" bangle
I think the idea for this piece must have come from one of those carved ivory elephant bangles from India or something similar, it would also have been influenced by scythian work because I had been making twisted wire torcs and was much inspired by their superb wire work and the wonderful naturalism of their sculptured gold animals.
The original was carved from a single piece of hard jeweller's carving wax, I don't know how long I took to make it but it must have been weeks because I'm a criminally slow worker.
